Texas Employers will be protected from chargebacks if workers are separated from their job due to COVID-19

Texas Employers will be protected from unemployment chargebacks if workers are separated from their job due to COVID-19. Please provide this required information to your workers at the time of any separation:

Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits are available to workers who are unemployed and who meet the requirements of state UI eligibility laws. You may file a claim in the first week that employment stops, or work hours are reduced.

You will need to provide the Texas Workforce Commission with the following information:

    1. Your full legal name
    2. Your Social Security Number
    3. Your authorization to work (if you are not a US citizen or resident)

To file a UI claim by phone, call: 1-800-939-6631 from 8am-6pm Central time M- F.

Texas Labor Code Section 208.001(b) requires employers to post notices that provide general information about filing a claim for unemployment benefits. TWC has updated the Unemployment and Payday Worker Poster. Consistent with the direction above, you may consider giving your workers a copy of the Unemployment and Payday Worker Poster located at https://www.twc.texas.gov/businesses/posters-workplace
